Ich liebe Cleo. Nur, dass ihr's wisst. Das Latzkleid von Tilly and the Buttons ist eins meiner liebsten Kleidungsstücke. Und dabei fing eigentlich alles nur mit (Näh-)Frust an...

Damals, als mich irgendein Projekt fast in den Wahnsinn getrieben hat, da hab ich mich glücklich gekauft und dann glücklich genäht. Ich liebe den lässigen Stil. Ich liebe, dass es so easy zu nähen ist. Und dass man trotzdem immer noch was daran verändern kann. Außerdem sieht es einfach umwerfend in Cord aus.

Ich hab schon einmal eins aus einem weinroten Cord genäht und dafür ein bisschen gehackt: Brusttasche mit selbstgemachtem Schrägband eingefasst, den Trägern eine Rückseite aus dem Belegstoff verpasst und Eingrifftaschen in die Seitennaht gesetzt. Letzteres ging gründlich schief. Das Teil hat nicht umsonst aufgesetzte Taschen... Ich liebe und trage es trotzdem sehr häufig.

Ende letzten Jahres habe ich jedenfalls endlich geschafft, eine Version aus dem (schon damals erwähnten) dunkelblauen Bio-Cord zu nähen. Zusammen mit dem blau-weiß gestreiften Baumwoll-Webstoff für Beleg, Taschenkanten und Trägerrückseiten ist die neue Cleo herrlich maritim geworden. Und furchtbar schwierig zu fotografieren (außerdem ein absoluter Magnet für Katzen-Flausch).

Gekürzt habe ich natürlich wieder ca. 5 cm, aber ansonsten habe dieses Mal eine glatte Größe 4 genäht. Denn meine Taille hat beschlossen, dass sie jetzt, wo wir beide bald die 35 knacken, mehr Raum braucht. Auch gut, wenn ich damit jetzt weniger Zeit mit dem Anpassen von Schnittmustern verbringe... Ich habe mich dieses Mal gegen Schnallen und für Knöpfe entschieden. Das erste Knopfloch sah auch ganz hervorragend aus. Das zweite ging dann erstmal voll in Hose. :( Ich habe es so gut es geht gerettet und wenn die Gute zugeknöpft bleibt, fällt es auch gar nicht groß auf.
Die Knöpfe sind absichtlich unabsichtlich nicht gleich. Ich hatte einen 9er-Pack wunderschöner maritim angehauchter Knöpfe von Rico. Und die sind alle unterschiedlich. Ich find's ein lustiges Detail, ziemlich Nadelninja und deswegen einfach perfekt.

Stoff: dunkelblauer Bio-Cord von stoffbotin (allerdings schon vor Jahren gekauft).
Anleitung: Cleo dungaree dress von Tilly and the Buttons
Ninja Style: Die Träger sind nicht aus einem Stück genäht, wie in der Anleitung angegeben, sondern aus Ober- und Unterstoff. Dafür hab ich das Schnittteil der Länge nach halbiert (dort, wo man es sonst faltet) und an der Kante eine Nahtzugabe hinzugefügt.
Für die Taschen habe ich aus dem Baumwollwebstoff ein Schrägband hergestellt, die oberen 1,5 cm der Schnittteile entfernt (Das sind die, die sonst nach innen umgeklappt und abgesteppt werden.) und die obere Kante mit dem Schrägband eingefasst.
Fails: Knopfloch Nr. 2. Außerdem war ich zu ungeduldig beim Einfassen der Brusttasche, mein Schrägband hat sich gedehnt und die Einfassung ist etwas wellig, wie man auf den Bildern auch sehen kann. Egal, ich liebe das Teil!

I love Cleo. Just so you know. The pinafore dress by Tilly and the Buttons is one of my all-time favourites and probably my most beloved garment (also gets the most wear). And it all started with (sewing) frustration ... Back then, when another project almost drove me crazy, I bought myself happy, then found happiness in sewing again. I love the casual style. I love that it's so easy to sew. And that even though it is so simple, you can do a lot with it. Also, it just looks fabulous in corduroy.

I've sewn Cleo before in a ruby coloured corduroy with some little hacks: added a trim to the large breast pocket, gave the straps a different fabric on the underside, and sewn in side seam pockets. The later, of course, went quite wrong. There is a reason the pattern has patch pockets ... I still love it and wear it a lot.

Late last year I finally had time to sew a version of the navy blue organic corduroy (that I had announced back then already and that is a real magnet for cat fluff). Together with the blue-and-white-striped cotton for the facings, (patch) pocket bindings and undersides of the straps, the new Cleo turned out wonderfully maritime. And very hard to photograph...

Of course, I've shortened the skirt again by approx. 5 cm, but otherwise made a straight size 4. Because my waist has decided that, now that we both hit 35, it needs more room. Fine with me, it means I spend less time adjusting and grading sewing patterns ... I decided on the pinafore version this time instead of the dungarees, which meant sewing button holes. The first one looked great. Then I screwed up the second one. :( I've patched it up as good as I could and it is hardly noticeable if the lady is buttoned up.

The buttons deliberately are different by chance. I had a pack of 9 beautiful, buttons with a slightly maritime look by Rico. And they're all a bit different. I like this quirky detail, it's very Nadelninja and therefore just perfect.

Fabric: navy-blue organic corduroy bought at stoffbotin (years ago).
Pattern: Cleo dungaree dress by Tilly and the Buttons
Ninja Style: The straps are not made from a single piece as per the instructions, but sewn with an "outer" fabric and a facing. To achieve this I cut the pattern piece in half along the long end (where you usually fold it) and added a seam allowance along that edge.
For the patch pockets, I made bias binding from the cotton I used for the facings. I cut off 1.5 cm at the top edge of the pocket pieces (the amount you'd normally fold under and topstitch), and finished the upper edge with my bias binding.
Fails: Button hole no. 2. Also, I was too impatient while sewing the bias binding to the large pocket: The bias binding stretched a little and the trim turned out a bit wavy, as you can see in the pictures. Who cares?! I just love my Cleo!
